In the Classroom: Pedagogy Resources
Welcome to In the Classroom, an online resource for teachers of nonfiction across disciplines. Our goal is to provide the space for teachers to collaborate, to seek inspiration from each other, and strengthen our collective ideas about what constitutes creative writing studies in general and nonfiction studies in particular.
We believe very strongly in literary citizenship, a pay-it-forward model of refreshing our own teaching and demonstrating for our students the work of the nonfiction community. As teachers, we all started from scratch, whether it was at the beginning of our teaching careers or when offered a new class to teach. We’ve all been inspired by interesting course topics. We are all mentored by great teachers. This resource aims to expand that community.
We are particularly mindful of intellectual property of these classes, so please feel free to take inspiration, but please credit the original author as you use the materials with your own students.
We have collected the entirety of Best American Essays' thirty year history, the reprints and Notables, into a searchable format. We have the information of authors, journals, years, and more. An excellent resource for anyone doing research in nonfiction.
Are you looking for inspiration for a new nonfiction class? Maybe for a unit on nonfiction? We have a great collection of syllabi (and we're always looking to add more) from creative writing workshops to first-year writing to creative writing pedagogy.
